Yesterday, my mom and I was talking about how it is so important for children to have the freedom to be themselves without being judged or compared to another child and without a parent or an elder treating the child differently because they are projecting their own issues onto the child unaware. So, then the child does not become who they are supposed to be and a portion of their personality is suppressed. She shared with me some things she remembered from her childhood and it made me share somethings about mine. We discussed how we could have been so different as children- more outgoing, not afraid to take chances, just be ourselves without fear. You see both, my mom and I are naturally shy, introverts but we become extroverted around people we trust. Because of our experiences, our discernment can sift right through a person’s motives. Sometimes, its quick and sometimes it takes a bit of time as the red flags began stack up because of the person’s actions. We may miss a few due to our ignorance to see because we did not communicate our needs/wants clearly...which bring me to my thoughts on Boldness.
What is Boldness? How can we cultivate it? After reading my bible, I noticed a snippet on Boldness, making a memorable presence (pg 822 if you have The Woman’s Study Bible).
Allow me to paraphrase the snippet-- it’s the expressing of oneself clearly without fear, without being hindered by what people think, and without being rude and aggressive. It’s a simple way of communicating your thoughts and feelings clearly with another person or with a group of people.
I admit this is still a struggle for me. As a child, I would sit back in class and not share the answer because I was scared of what someone might say about me or call me a know-it-all! You know we have all been there! I know I am not the only one! Now as an adult, I can be in a discussion with some of my friends and I will keep my thoughts to myself instead expressing my thoughts. I will hold back sometimes until I am asked my opinion. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good girl chat especially one that refreshes my spirit! But what about that friend who is so toxic! They always have some type of drama going on and they want to dump it all on you! You listen but you don’t give your honest opinion because you don’t want to hurt their feelings so you let them continue to dump their trash on you! Help us Lord to speak out more and for them to put their trash in the trash can and not in our spirits!
Lately, I have been making an effort to protect my spirit more. I have been praying about my circle of friends, some will stay because we have a mutual friendship. We support each other. We can have frank discussions and we are respectful about our time together…we all have busy lives! Adulting is something else!! LOL…Like Ahmad said, “Back in the days when I was young I'm not a kid anymore. But some days I sit and wish I was a kid again.”
But some of my so called friends, will have to go. They are draining and unsupportive. They are jealous and selfish…starting to wonder why are, we, friends in the first place…but change is coming!
Wow! It seems like only yesterday that we were celebrating the New Year! And here we are on Saturday, January 30, 2021. Tomorrow will be January 31, 2021! The New Year is flying by already. I always pray at the beginning of the year, that I will accomplish all that God has predestined for me this year. I believe that life is precious and that we have to make each of our days count as we count our days!
So I am stepping out in faith and in boldness! Today is the first day of my Podcast! I am excited about creating content! I look forward to seeing how God will grow Crowning Thoughts to bless women everywhere!
